SUMMARY
The brown bear is the member of Ursidae with the wider distribution. It is one of the larger extant carnivores (body length 1.4-2.8 m, body weight about 271 kg). The basic colour of the fur is brown, but it usual to preserve different colours such as grey, black and red. Each subspecies reflects a different pattern on fur colour and body proportions.
Reproduction occurs in May-June and the individuals are monogamous. The juveniles reach sexual maturity in 5.2-5.5 years. They live 20-40 years.
